What Is the Unforgivable Sin?
August 31, 2025Starting Your Journey in God’s Word
If you’re new to reading the Bible, it can feel intimidating. It’s a big book, full of history, poetry, teachings, and prophecy. You might wonder, “Where do I even begin?” The good news is this: you don’t have to figure it all out at once. The Bible is not just a book—it’s God’s Word, meant to guide you step by step.
Why Read the Bible?
The Bible is God’s love letter to humanity. It tells us who God is, what He has done for us, and how we can walk with Him in everyday life. Reading Scripture is not about rushing or “finishing” it, but about getting to know the God who loves you.
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” — Psalm 119:105
Where Should I Start?
For beginners, here are a few great entry points:
- The Gospel of John – A beautiful introduction to Jesus’ life, love, and teachings.
- Psalms – Honest prayers and songs that express every human emotion.
- Proverbs – Practical wisdom for daily living.
While the Old Testament is rich in history, many new readers find starting with the New Testament helpful, because it focuses directly on Jesus and how to live as His follower.
Tips for Beginners
- Start Small – Even 5–10 minutes a day makes a difference.
- Pray First – Ask God to open your heart and help you understand His Word.
- Choose a Translation That’s Easy to Read – Versions like NIV, NLT, or ESV are beginner-friendly.
- Take Notes or Journal – Write down verses that stand out or questions you have.
- Stay Consistent – It’s better to read a little each day than a lot once in a while.
Avoiding Common Roadblocks
- Don’t worry if you don’t understand everything at once. The Bible is deep, and God will reveal more to you over time.
- Don’t compare your journey to others. Your relationship with God is unique.
- Don’t think you have to be perfect. God meets you where you are.
A Personal Encouragement
I used to avoid reading the Bible because I thought it was too hard. But when I finally opened it, I discovered it was full of love, wisdom, and hope I had been searching for. Once I started, I wished I hadn’t waited so long.
❤️ Final Thought
Starting to read the Bible is one of the most life-changing steps you can take. Don’t focus on finishing it quickly. Focus on letting God speak to you each day, one verse at a time. Remember—He is not looking for perfection, but for your heart.
