What Should I Do When I Feel Far from God?
September 1, 2025Doubt Is Part of the Human Experience
If you’ve ever felt doubt in your walk with God, you’re not alone. Even strong believers in the Bible wrestled with doubt—like Thomas, who struggled to believe in the resurrection until he saw Jesus for himself (John 20:24–29). Doubt doesn’t mean your faith is broken; it means you’re human. What matters most is what you do with that doubt.
Why Doubt Creeps In
- Life’s Hardships – When prayers seem unanswered or suffering feels overwhelming.
- Uncertainty – Not having clear direction or feeling unsure about decisions.
- Spiritual Attack – The enemy often plants seeds of doubt to shake our faith (Genesis 3:1).
- Our Own Questions – Wanting to understand everything about God before trusting Him.
What the Bible Says
God is not afraid of your questions. In fact, He invites you to bring them to Him. Jude 1:22 says, “Be merciful to those who doubt.” This shows that God sees doubt with compassion, not condemnation.
James 1:5 also reminds us that if we lack wisdom, we can ask God, and He will give it generously.
Practical Steps to Handle Doubt
- Pray Honestly – Tell God exactly what you’re struggling to believe. He already knows your heart.
- Stay in Scripture – God’s Word is the anchor that steadies us when our feelings waver.
- Look Back on God’s Faithfulness – Keep a journal of answered prayers and past blessings to remind yourself of His presence.
- Talk with Other Believers – Sometimes God uses community to strengthen our faith.
- Act in Faith – Even small steps of obedience show God you trust Him, and He often strengthens faith as we walk with Him.
A Gentle Reminder
Faith is not the absence of doubt—it’s choosing to trust God even when doubt tries to whisper otherwise. Over time, you’ll see that God is faithful, and your doubts can actually become stepping stones to a stronger faith.
✅ Key Takeaway: Don’t let doubt push you away from God. Let it drive you toward Him. Your questions don’t scare Him—He welcomes them, and He promises to meet you in the middle of them.
