Why Did Jesus Have to Die?

Who is the Holy Spirit?
September 2, 2025The Central Question of Christianity
The resurrection isn’t just another Bible story—it’s the foundation of the Christian faith. The Apostle Paul wrote:
“And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith.”
— 1 Corinthians 15:14
If Jesus didn’t rise from the dead, Christianity falls apart. But if He did, it changes everything.
Eyewitness Accounts
The New Testament records multiple eyewitnesses who saw Jesus alive after His crucifixion:
- Mary Magdalene was the first to see Him near the empty tomb (John 20:14–16).
- The disciples saw Him in a locked room, where He showed them His hands and side (John 20:19–20).
- Over 500 people saw Him at once, according to Paul (1 Corinthians 15:6).
These weren’t just visions or hallucinations—they were shared experiences across different groups of people.
The Empty Tomb
The tomb was found empty, even though Roman guards were stationed to keep it secure (Matthew 27:65–66). If Jesus’ body had still been there, His enemies could have easily ended the Christian movement by producing it. Instead, the empty tomb became a powerful testimony that something miraculous had happened.
Transformation of the Disciples
Before the resurrection, the disciples were fearful and in hiding. After they encountered the risen Jesus, they boldly preached—even facing persecution and death. People don’t willingly suffer torture for something they know is a lie. Their courage shows they truly believed Jesus had risen.
Historical Credibility
Even non-Christian historians from the first century, like Josephus and Tacitus, confirmed that Jesus was crucified and that His followers believed He rose from the dead. While not all accepted Him as Messiah, they acknowledged the movement was built on resurrection faith.
What the Resurrection Means for Us
The resurrection is not only an event in history—it has personal meaning:
- Forgiveness is real — Jesus’ death paid the price for our sins.
- Death is defeated — We have the promise of eternal life.
- Hope is alive — No matter how dark life seems, the resurrection proves God can bring life out of death.
“Because I live, you also will live.”
— John 14:19
❤️ Takeaway:
Yes, Jesus really rose from the dead. The evidence is strong, but more than that, the resurrection continues to transform lives—including yours and mine—today.
