The Tower of Babel Bible Story
April 7, 2025“But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.” – Genesis 6:8
The story of Noah’s Ark and the Great Flood is one of the most well-known and powerful accounts in the Bible. Found in Genesis chapters 6–9, it tells of a time when the world had become filled with violence and wickedness. But one man, Noah, walked faithfully with God—and through him, God would bring both judgment and redemption.
🌍 A World Full of Evil
“The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth…” – Genesis 6:5
After Adam and Eve were expelled from the Garden, generations passed, and humanity grew in number—but also in sin. The people of the earth were corrupt, and their hearts were filled with evil continually (Genesis 6:11–12). This grieved the heart of God.
“The Lord regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled.” – Genesis 6:6
God decided to cleanse the earth with a great flood, but He saw something different in one man.
🙏 Noah Walked with God
“Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God.” – Genesis 6:9
God gave Noah detailed instructions to build a massive ark—an enormous boat 300 cubits long (about 450 feet), 50 cubits wide, and 30 cubits high (Genesis 6:15). The ark was to house Noah, his family, and pairs of every kind of animal.
“You are to bring into the ark two of all living creatures, male and female, to keep them alive with you.” – Genesis 6:19
Noah obeyed God completely, even though he had never seen rain like what was coming (Hebrews 11:7).
🌧️ The Flood Begins
“On that day all the springs of the great deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens were opened.” – Genesis 7:11
When Noah was 600 years old, the flood came. Rain fell for 40 days and 40 nights, and the waters covered even the highest mountains (Genesis 7:17–20). Every living thing that was not in the ark perished (Genesis 7:21–23).
But God remembered Noah and all who were with him (Genesis 8:1). After 150 days, the waters began to recede, and the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat (Genesis 8:4).
🕊️ A Sign of Dry Land
Noah sent out a raven and then a dove to see if the waters had dried. The dove returned with an olive leaf (Genesis 8:11), and finally, it did not return at all—signaling that dry land had appeared.
After more than a year in the ark, God told Noah to come out (Genesis 8:15–17). The first thing Noah did was build an altar and offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving to the Lord (Genesis 8:20).
🌈 God’s Covenant and the Rainbow
“I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.” – Genesis 9:13
God made a covenant with Noah and all living creatures that He would never again destroy the earth by flood (Genesis 9:11). As a sign of His promise, God placed a rainbow in the sky—a symbol of His mercy and faithfulness.
✨ Key Takeaway
The story of Noah’s Ark and the Flood reminds us that while God is holy and must judge sin, He is also merciful and faithful to those who walk with Him. Noah’s obedience saved his family and preserved life on earth. Through Noah, we see a picture of faith, obedience, and God’s grace.
