Walking Through Grief with Hope: Bible Study Guide
November 20, 2025Introduction
Many people spend their entire lives trying to answer one question: “Who am I?”
The world tries to answer that for you — through success, trauma, appearance, achievements, mistakes, or other people’s opinions.
But God gives a different answer.
Your identity is not shaped by your past.
It is not shaped by your failures.
Your identity is not shaped by the labels others placed on you.
Your identity is shaped by Christ — His love, His truth, His sacrifice, and His purpose for your life.
This Bible study guide will help you explore Scriptures that reveal who you are in Christ, how God sees you, and how to walk confidently in the identity He gave you.
What Does the Bible Say About Identity in Christ?
The Bible offers a clear foundation for identity that no circumstance, person, or memory can take away.
Here are powerful identity truths from Scripture:
1. God Loves You Deeply
Key Verse:
“I have loved you with an everlasting love.” (Jeremiah 31:3)
Reflect:
- How does God’s everlasting love reshape your view of yourself?
- What lies about being “unlovable” need to be surrendered?
2. God Created You in His Image
Key Verse:
“So God created mankind in His own image.” (Genesis 1:27)
Reflect:
- What does being made in God’s image say about your worth?
- How does this truth challenge negative self-talk?
3. God Chose You and Set You Apart
Key Verse:
“He chose us in Him before the creation of the world.” (Ephesians 1:4)
Reflect:
- What changes when you believe God chose you intentionally?
- How does unwantedness or rejection lose power in this truth?
4. God Fully Knows You and Fully Accepts You
Key Verse:
“You have searched me, Lord, and You know me.” (Psalm 139:1)
Reflect:
- How does being known by God bring comfort?
- What fears about being misunderstood does this truth calm?
5. You Are Redeemed and Made New
Key Verse:
“He has rescued us… and brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves.” (Colossians 1:13)
Reflect:
- What part of your identity still feels trapped in the past?
- What does redemption look like in your daily life?
6. You Are God’s Workmanship
Key Verse:
“We are His workmanship.” (Ephesians 2:10)
Reflect:
- What does it mean to be God’s purposeful creation?
- How does this shift your understanding of your value?
7. You Belong to God
Key Verse:
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are mine.” (Isaiah 43:1)
Reflect:
- What insecurity fades when you know you belong to God?
- How does belonging bring emotional stability?

Going Deeper
1. Write “Identity in Christ” declarations
Turn verses into statements such as:
- “I am chosen.”
- “I am redeemed.”
- “I am valuable.”
2. Replace lies with Scripture
Create two lists:
- Lies you believed
- Bible verses that confront those lies
3. Speak Scripture aloud daily
Hearing truth strengthens your mind and spirit.
4. Use worship strategically
Songs about identity help rewire emotional beliefs.
5. Surround yourself with people who see your God-given identity
Healthy community reinforces spiritual identity.
Closing Thought
God roots your identity in His strength — not in anything fragile.
Walk confidently, knowing God chooses you, loves you, values you, and created you for purpose.
Let Scripture reshape the way you see yourself and bring freedom to every part of your life.
