The Ten Commandments on Mount Sinai Bible Story
April 7, 2025One of the most awe-inspiring miracles in the Bible is the Parting of the Red Sea, recorded in Exodus 14. This unforgettable event marked the climax of the Exodus, when God delivered the Israelites from slavery in Egypt under Pharaoh’s rule. It not only showcases God’s power and faithfulness but also reveals how He makes a way where there seems to be no way.
🔥 The Background: Israel’s Escape from Egypt
After the devastating Ten Plagues (Exodus 7–12), Pharaoh finally allowed the Israelites to leave Egypt. Led by Moses, about 600,000 men, plus women and children, began their journey toward the Promised Land.
“So God led the people around by the desert road toward the Red Sea.” – Exodus 13:18 (NIV)
God did not lead them through the shortest route, because He knew the people were not yet ready to face battle. Instead, He guided them through the wilderness toward the Red Sea, and His presence was visible in a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night (Exodus 13:21-22).
😠 Pharaoh’s Change of Heart
After the Israelites left, Pharaoh regretted letting them go and assembled his army—including 600 of his best chariots—to chase after them.
“What have we done? We have let the Israelites go and have lost their services!” – Exodus 14:5
The Israelites, now trapped between Pharaoh’s approaching army and the sea, were terrified and cried out to God. In fear, they blamed Moses for bringing them into the wilderness to die. But Moses reassured them with powerful words of faith:
“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” – Exodus 14:14
🌊 The Miracle: Parting of the Red Sea
God then told Moses to stretch out his hand over the sea. That night, God drove the sea back with a strong east wind and turned it into dry land. The waters were divided, and the Israelites walked through the sea on dry ground, with walls of water on both sides.
“Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and all that night the Lord drove the sea back… and the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground.” – Exodus 14:21-22
As Pharaoh’s army pursued them, God caused confusion among their chariots. Once the Israelites had safely crossed, God told Moses to stretch out his hand again, and the waters returned, drowning Pharaoh’s army.
“Not one of them survived.” – Exodus 14:28
This stunning deliverance revealed God’s mighty power and His faithfulness to His people.
🙌 A Song of Victory
After crossing the Red Sea, Moses and the Israelites sang a song of praise to the Lord, known as the Song of Moses (Exodus 15:1–18). It is one of the oldest recorded hymns of worship, celebrating God’s strength, deliverance, and unfailing love.
“The Lord is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation.” – Exodus 15:2
