Jesus Calms the Storm (Mark 4:35–41)
September 6, 2025Have you ever longed for hope in a dark world? The birth of Jesus is the moment when God’s promise of salvation became real. This story is more than a tradition—it is the heart of our faith, showing us that God is with us and His love has no limits.
📖 Story Summary
The Gospels of Matthew and Luke tell us the story of Jesus’ birth. An angel appeared to Mary, a young woman in Nazareth, and told her she would give birth to the Son of God through the Holy Spirit. At first afraid, Mary responded with faith: “I am the Lord’s servant.”
Joseph, her fiancé, also received a message in a dream. The angel reassured him to take Mary as his wife because the child was from God. The angel declared:
“You are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” — Matthew 1:21 (NIV)
When the time came, Mary gave birth to Jesus in Bethlehem. Because there was no room in the inn, she laid Him in a manger. Angels appeared to shepherds in the fields, announcing the good news of great joy—that a Savior had been born. The shepherds hurried to see the child and spread the word.
Wise men from the east also came, guided by a star, bringing gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Not everyone welcomed the news—King Herod felt threatened and sought to kill the child, but God protected Him by leading Joseph to take Mary and Jesus to Egypt until it was safe to return.
The birth of Jesus fulfilled centuries of prophecy and showed that God had kept His promise to send the Messiah.
God Keeps His Promises
From the very beginning, God promised a Savior, and Jesus’ birth fulfilled that promise. This reminds us that when God speaks, He is faithful to bring His Word to pass.
Humility and Glory Together
Jesus did not come as a powerful king, but as a baby in a manger. His humble beginning shows that God values obedience and faith more than status or wealth. At the same time, His birth was surrounded by angels and signs of glory, declaring Him as the King of kings.
Good News for All People
The shepherds and the wise men remind us that Jesus came for everyone—ordinary people and seekers from far away. His birth was not for one nation alone but for the whole world.
“Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” — Luke 2:14 (NIV)
Jesus, Our Savior and Immanuel
The name “Jesus” means “The Lord saves,” and “Immanuel” means “God with us.” His birth is the ultimate proof that God has not abandoned us. He came to bring forgiveness, peace, and eternal life.
Closing Encouragement
The story of Jesus’ birth is not just history—it is hope for today. God entered our world in the most vulnerable way to show His love and to save us. No matter where you are or what you’re facing, remember this truth: God is with you, and His promises never fail.
