The Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25–37)
September 6, 2025Have you ever wondered if what you have is enough? The story of Jesus feeding the 5,000 shows us that when we place even the smallest offering in His hands, He multiplies it beyond anything we could imagine.
📖 Story Summary
In John 6:1–14, large crowds followed Jesus because of the miracles He performed. One day, as Jesus taught on a mountainside, a massive crowd of about 5,000 men—plus women and children—gathered. They were hungry, and Jesus asked Philip where they could buy bread to feed them. Philip admitted that even half a year’s wages would not be enough to give everyone a bite.
Andrew spoke up about a boy who had five small loaves and two fish, but he questioned how such a small meal could help so many.
Jesus told the people to sit down. He gave thanks for the loaves and fish, then distributed them to the crowd. Miraculously, everyone ate as much as they wanted, and twelve baskets of leftovers were gathered afterward.
The people were amazed, saying: “Surely this is the Prophet who is to come into the world.”
Jesus Provides Abundantly
The boy’s small lunch seemed insignificant, yet in Jesus’ hands it became more than enough. This reminds us that God is not limited by what we lack. He delights in providing abundantly for His people.
Faith Over Doubt
Philip and Andrew both struggled to see a solution, but Jesus showed that faith means trusting Him when resources seem too small. Our part is to bring what we have; His part is to multiply it.
Jesus, the Bread of Life
Later in John 6, Jesus explained the deeper meaning of this miracle. Just as He fed the crowd with bread, He is the true Bread of Life who satisfies our deepest hunger.
“I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” — John 6:35 (NIV)
Closing Encouragement
The feeding of the 5,000 shows us that nothing we bring to Jesus is too small. When we offer Him our resources, time, or talents, He multiplies them for His glory and for the good of others. Trust Him with what you have, and watch how He provides.
