What Should I Do When I Feel Far from God?

What does it mean to be “saved”?
September 1, 2025The Struggle We All Face
If you’ve ever wondered, “Why do I keep doing this when I know it’s wrong?”—you’re not alone. Even the Apostle Paul wrestled with this when he wrote:
“For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing.” (Romans 7:19)
Falling into the same sin repeatedly can make us feel defeated, guilty, or even question our salvation. But the truth is, this struggle is part of the Christian walk. God doesn’t expect perfection overnight—He calls us into a process of transformation.
Why Does This Keep Happening?
- Habit and Flesh Patterns
Many sins are tied to habits formed over time. Breaking them often requires intentional effort and God’s strength. - Temptation and Weakness
The enemy knows your weak spots. He often attacks in the same area because it’s where you’re most vulnerable. - Unhealed Wounds
Sometimes repeated sin is tied to deeper pain, trauma, or unmet needs. Until those roots are healed, the pattern can continue. - Trying in Your Own Strength
Willpower alone can’t break the cycle. Freedom comes through the Holy Spirit, not self-effort.
Steps Toward Freedom
- Confess and Repent—Every Time
Don’t let shame silence you. 1 John 1:9 promises, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” - Identify the Triggers
Ask yourself: When am I most tempted? What situations, people, or emotions make this harder? Awareness is the first step to change. - Replace, Don’t Just Remove
Sin leaves a void. Fill it with prayer, Scripture, worship, and healthy habits rather than just trying to “stop.” - Seek Support
God designed us for community. Whether it’s a trusted Christian friend, a mentor, or a counselor, accountability makes a difference. - Rely on the Holy Spirit
Galatians 5:16 says, “So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.” Ask the Spirit daily to strengthen you.
God’s Grace Covers You
Falling into the same sin doesn’t mean God has abandoned you or stopped loving you. His grace is greater than your failures. Philippians 1:6 assures us: “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
Freedom is possible. It may be a process, but every step you take toward God, He takes toward you.
✅ Key Takeaway: Struggling with repeated sin doesn’t make you a failure—it makes you human. God’s grace is bigger than your weakness, and His Spirit will help you overcome.
