Why Do I Still Struggle Even Though I’m a Christian?
August 19, 2025Prayer is powerful, and Scripture assures us that God hears every word we pray. Yet, many of us have faced moments when it seemed like heaven was silent. We ask for healing, guidance, or provision, and the answer doesn’t come the way we hoped. Does that mean God didn’t hear? Absolutely not. The Bible shows us that God hears every prayer—but He answers the prayers of the righteous, those who seek Him with all their heart.
God Hears Every Prayer
1 John 5:14 tells us, “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.”
God is never deaf to our cries. Every whispered plea, every tearful prayer, is known by Him. Psalm 139:4 reminds us, “Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely.” Nothing we say is hidden from God.
God Answers the Righteous
While God hears all prayers, the Bible makes it clear that He answers those who walk in righteousness and seek Him.
- Proverbs 15:29: “The Lord is far from the wicked, but He hears the prayer of the righteous.”
- James 5:16: “The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”
Righteousness doesn’t mean perfection. It means living in faith, turning from sin, and trusting Jesus’ sacrifice for forgiveness. Through Christ, we are made righteous (2 Corinthians 5:21). When we pray from a heart that seeks God sincerely, our prayers align with His will and carry great power.
How Do We Seek God?
God invites us to seek Him, and when we do, He promises to be found:
- Repentance – Turning away from sin and asking for forgiveness (Acts 3:19).
- Prayer – Talking to God honestly, not just with requests but with thanksgiving and surrender (Philippians 4:6).
- God’s Word – Reading the Bible to understand His will and promises (Psalm 119:105).
- Obedience – Living in a way that honors Him (John 14:15).
- Faith – Trusting God’s timing and wisdom even when we don’t understand (Hebrews 11:6).
Jeremiah 29:13 promises, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
When the Answer Looks Different
Sometimes God’s answer is yes, sometimes it is no, and sometimes it is not yet. His wisdom is far beyond ours (Isaiah 55:8-9). Even when the outcome doesn’t match our request, God is still at work. Romans 8:28 assures us that “in all things God works for the good of those who love Him.”
Trusting God’s Faithfulness
When you feel like your prayers are unanswered, don’t give up. Keep seeking Him. Keep living in faith. Remember that God is not ignoring you—He may be redirecting you, growing your faith, or preparing something greater than you imagined. His timing and His answers are always perfect.
