How do I deal with doubt?
September 1, 2025
Why do I keep falling into the same sin?
September 1, 2025There are seasons in life when God feels close, and there are times when He feels far away. If you’ve ever thought, “I can’t feel God right now” or “Has God left me?”—you’re not alone. Even faithful people in the Bible experienced this. David cried out in Psalm 13:1, “How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me?”
Feeling distant from God doesn’t mean He has abandoned you. Scripture reminds us in Hebrews 13:5, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Often, the distance we feel is about our perspective, not His presence.
Why Do We Sometimes Feel Far From God?
- Life Distractions – Busyness, stress, or focusing on the world more than God.
- Sin or Disobedience – Choices that create distance between us and His presence.
- Spiritual Dry Seasons – Times when God allows us to grow deeper in faith by seeking Him.
- Unanswered Prayers – Moments when silence makes us wonder if He is near.
Practical Ways to Draw Close Again
- Pray Honestly
Don’t try to hide how you feel. Tell God directly: “Lord, I feel far from You, but I want to be close again.” Prayer is the first step to reconnecting. - Return to Scripture
God speaks through His Word. Even when emotions don’t line up, Scripture is the steady voice of truth that reminds us who God is. - Worship Intentionally
Play worship music, sing, or simply thank God for His past faithfulness. Worship shifts our focus from ourselves back to Him. - Remove Distractions
Sometimes feeling distant comes from being too full of the world’s noise. Step back from things pulling you away from Him and make space to listen. - Seek Community
God often speaks through other believers. Reach out to a trusted Christian friend, join a Bible study, or share your struggle.
A Gentle Reminder
Faith isn’t about always “feeling” God—it’s about trusting His promises, even when your emotions don’t match. Isaiah 41:10 reminds us:
“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
You may feel far, but God is closer than you realize. Keep reaching out, and He will meet you in His perfect timing.
✅ Key Takeaway: Distance from God is usually a feeling, not a fact. He is always near, and if you seek Him, you will find Him (Jeremiah 29:13).
