Why Did Jesus Die for Us?
November 10, 2024Who Is Jesus?
Many have heard the name of Jesus, but who is He, really? The Bible offers us a powerful and loving portrait of who Jesus is, His purpose, and His love for us. Whether you’re familiar with His teachings or just curious, Jesus’s life and message bring hope, peace, and unconditional love. Let’s explore who Jesus is through the lens of the Bible and discover why His life is a testament to God’s love for each of us.
Jesus Is God’s Son, Sent for Us
The Bible reveals that Jesus is the Son of God. In John 3:16, we read, “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Jesus was sent by God to show His love, not to condemn us, but to bring salvation and hope. God’s purpose in sending Jesus was to create a personal relationship with each one of us, filled with love and grace.
Our Shepherd and Guide
One of the beautiful ways Jesus describes Himself is as a shepherd. In John 10:11, Jesus says, “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” Like a shepherd caring tenderly for each of his sheep, Jesus cares deeply for each of us, guiding us through life’s challenges, protecting us, and ensuring that we are never truly alone. Even when we stray, He welcomes us back with open arms, ready to lead us toward a life filled with peace and purpose.
A Friend of All
Throughout His life, Jesus showed kindness to all people, including those who were marginalized, hurting, or considered “unworthy.” In John 15:15, He calls His disciples “friends,” saying, “I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.” Jesus offers us a friendship that is loyal, trustworthy, and unwavering. His friendship is available to anyone who seeks it, and He loves us as we are, without condition.
Our Healer and Comforter
Jesus’s compassion for people is seen through His healing and miracles. In Matthew 11:28, He invites us to come to Him with our burdens: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Jesus understands our struggles and pain, and He offers comfort for those who are weary. His healing may be physical, emotional, or spiritual, and He is always ready to comfort us when we turn to Him.
The Savior Who Died for Us
Jesus’s ultimate act of love was His willingness to die for our sins. Romans 5:8 tells us, “But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Through His sacrifice on the cross, He offered Himself so that we could have forgiveness, healing, and a renewed relationship with God. His death and resurrection are the cornerstone of Christian faith, showing that His love is boundless and that nothing can separate us from God’s love.
He is Our Hope for Eternity
The Bible teaches that Jesus is not only with us now, but He also offers hope for eternal life.
In John 14:2-3, Jesus reassures His followers: “In my Father’s house are many rooms… I am going there to prepare a place for you.”
our Savior promises us a future filled with joy, love, and everlasting peace. For those who place their faith in Him, this is not the end. He has prepared a place for us to be with Him forever.
Embracing Jesus’s Love Today
The love Jesus has for each of us is personal and eternal. As we seek to understand who Jesus is, may we feel embraced by His love. We can know that He came for each of us individually. He is our Shepherd, Friend, Healer, Savior, and Eternal Hope. Jesus’s life and message invite us to find peace, joy, and purpose in His love, which is open to everyone.
