Is Jesus Really God?

One of the most profound questions people ask is, “Is Jesus really God?” The Bible offers insights into the identity of Jesus that can help us understand who He is and the depth of His love for us. As we explore what the Scriptures say about Jesus, we see a God who comes close to us, who understands us, and who shows us the extent of His love through His life and actions.

Jesus Is God in Human Form

The Bible tells us that Jesus is God who came to earth in human form. In John 1:1, it says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Later in John 1:14, it explains, “The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.” This means that Jesus, who was with God from the beginning, took on human form to live among us. By becoming human, Jesus showed His desire to be close to us, to walk with us in our struggles, and to reveal God’s love in a personal way.

Christ Claimed to Be One with God

Throughout the New Testament, Jesus makes powerful claims about His identity that point to His divinity. In John 10:30, Jesus says, “I and the Father are one.” Here, Jesus declares that He is one with God, sharing the same divine nature. This claim was significant to His followers because it meant that He wasn’t just a teacher or prophet—He was declaring Himself to be God, who came to save and guide us.

Jesus Showed God’s Love and Compassion

One of the beautiful ways we see Jesus’s divinity is through His love and compassion for people. In Matthew 9:36, it says, “When He saw the crowds, He had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.” Jesus’s actions reflect God’s deep love and concern for each of us. As God, Jesus cared for the hurting, healed the sick, and forgave sins. His love is so complete that He meets each of us where we are, offering grace, healing, and hope.

Jesus Forgave Sins—A Divine Power

In the Bible, only God has the authority to forgive sins, yet Jesus forgave people’s sins during His ministry. For example, in Mark 2:5, Jesus tells a paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” The religious leaders were shocked because they knew that forgiving sins was something only God could do. Jesus’s ability to forgive sins reveals His divine authority and His desire to bring us freedom from guilt and shame. Through forgiveness, Christ offers us a new beginning and a restored relationship with God.

Jesus Accepted Worship as God

Throughout the Gospels, people worshiped Jesus, and He accepted their worship. In Matthew 14:33, after Jesus calms a storm, His disciples worship Him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.” In Jewish tradition, worship was reserved for God alone, yet Jesus welcomed their worship. By doing so, He confirmed His identity as God, who is worthy of honor and praise. This also shows that He desires a close relationship with us, one built on trust, love, and reverence.

Jesus’s Death and Resurrection Affirm His Divinity

One of the most profound aspects of Jesus’s life is His death and resurrection. In Romans 1:4, Paul writes, “[Jesus] was declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by His resurrection from the dead.” Jesus’s resurrection is evidence of His divine power and His victory over sin and death. By rising from the dead, Jesus proved that He is indeed God, and His resurrection brings us hope for new life and a promise of eternity with Him.

Jesus Invites Us into a Relationship with God

Jesus’s divinity is not only a theological truth; it’s an invitation to a personal relationship with God. In John 14:6, Jesus says, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Jesus’s words invite us to come to God through Him, experiencing His love, grace, and friendship. By believing in Him, we enter into a relationship with the living God, who understands our struggles, forgives our sins, and offers us everlasting life.

Embracing Him as God and Savior

The Bible reveals that Jesus is indeed God, who came to earth to bring us closer to Him. Through His life, teachings, miracles, and sacrifice, we see a God who loves us deeply and who desires to walk with us through every season of life. Embracing Jesus as God means accepting His love and opening our hearts to the peace and hope He offers. He is our Creator, Savior, and Friend, and He invites us into a relationship filled with grace, love, and purpose.
