What Does The Bible Say About Long Hair
March 24, 2025Did God Create Dinosaurs
The Bible does not use the word “dinosaur,” since that term was introduced in the 1800s, but it does speak of “beasts of the earth” created by God on the sixth day of creation (Genesis 1:24). Many Christians see this as including all land animals, which could encompass the creatures we now know through fossils as dinosaurs.
In Job 40:19, we also read about a creature called “Behemoth,” described with immense strength, bones like bronze, and a tail like a cedar. While some suggest this could describe a hippo or elephant, others point out the cedar-like tail imagery doesn’t fit those animals. This has led some scholars to consider that Job may have been describing a large, now-extinct creature.
Similarly, Scripture references Leviathan (Job 41; Isaiah 27:1) as a powerful sea creature. Whether literal or symbolic, such imagery shows how deeply creation—known and mysterious—was tied to people’s understanding of God’s power.
What can we conclude
Whether or not specific verses directly describe dinosaurs, what is clear is that God is the Creator of all life. Fossil discoveries remind us of the vastness of His creation, much of which we may never fully understand. The Bible affirms that “all things were created through Him and for Him” (Colossians 1:16).
For today’s believers, the focus is less on identifying each creature in Scripture. The focus is on remembering the truth behind it: every part of creation, past and present, points to the greatness of God.
