Why Did Jesus Have to Die?
September 2, 2025Why This Question Matters
It’s natural to wonder: If God is good, why does life feel hard? Many people wrestle with this question, especially when facing suffering, loss, or disappointment. As a Christian counsellor-in-training, I want to reassure you that questioning doesn’t mean weak faith—it means you’re honestly seeking. And God welcomes honest seekers.
The Bible Reveals God’s Goodness
The goodness of God isn’t just an idea; it’s shown again and again in Scripture:
- His Character “Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.”
— Psalm 107:1
God’s goodness is part of His very nature. He is unchanging, steady, and faithful. - His Creation
In Genesis, after each act of creation, God declared it was “good.” The world reflects His goodness, beauty, and order. - His Promises “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
— Jeremiah 29:11
God’s plans for His children always lead toward life and hope. - His Greatest Gift
The ultimate proof of His goodness is Jesus Christ. God gave His Son so we could be forgiven and have eternal life (John 3:16).
Experiencing God’s Goodness Personally
Sometimes it’s not enough to read that God is good—we need to feel it. You can experience His goodness when you:
- Spend time in prayer and feel His peace settle your heart.
- Recall moments when He carried you through what you thought you couldn’t endure.
- Notice small blessings in daily life—a sunrise, a word of encouragement, or unexpected provision.
Romans 8:28 reminds us:
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.”
Even when circumstances are painful, God can bring purpose and growth out of them. His goodness doesn’t mean life will always be easy, but it does mean we are never abandoned.
Bringing It All Together
We know God is good because:
- The Bible declares it.
- Creation reflects it.
- His promises assure it.
- Jesus proves it.
- Our lives bear witness to it.
❤️ Takeaway:
God’s goodness isn’t always measured by how easy life feels—it’s seen in His love, His faithfulness, and His unchanging promises. You can trust that even when life feels uncertain, His goodness will hold you steady.
