How do I know I’m really saved?
August 19, 2025
What does it mean to be born again?
August 31, 2025This is one of the most debated questions in Christianity: “If I’m saved, can I lose my salvation?” Many believers worry about falling away, making mistakes, or not being “good enough” to stay saved. To answer this, we must go back to what the Bible teaches about salvation, God’s promises, and our responsibility as His children.
Salvation Is God’s Gift, Not Our Achievement
Ephesians 2:8-9 reminds us: “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.”
Since salvation is a gift from God through faith in Christ, it does not rest on our ability to earn or keep it. What Jesus accomplished on the cross is complete and powerful enough to save us fully.
Jesus Promises Eternal Security
Jesus gave a clear promise in John 10:28-29: “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand.”
This means that true believers are safe in God’s hands. Salvation is not fragile—it rests on God’s power, not human weakness.
The Warning Passages
At the same time, Scripture also warns believers to remain faithful. Hebrews 3:14 says: “We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end.” These passages don’t mean we “lose” salvation like losing an item of clothing. Instead, they remind us that genuine faith perseveres. A life completely turning away from Christ reveals that the heart may not have been truly surrendered in the first place (1 John 2:19).
Assurance Through the Holy Spirit
Romans 8:16 says: “The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.” If the Spirit is at work in your life—convicting, comforting, guiding—that’s evidence of real salvation. While Christians may stumble, the Spirit continually draws us back to God.
God Is Faithful to Finish What He Started
One of the most comforting promises is Philippians 1:6: “Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
This means that salvation is God’s work from beginning to end. Even when we stumble or wander off track, God is faithful to draw us back. His Spirit convicts, restores, and strengthens us. Our salvation is secure because it depends on His faithfulness, not our perfection.
Final Encouragement
The Bible gives both comfort and caution. Comfort, because Jesus holds us securely. Caution, because true faith is living, enduring, and growing. If you trust in Jesus, continue to seek Him, and allow His Spirit to shape you, you can rest in the promise that your salvation is secure.
